Living Better in San Diego

The American Foundation For Suicide Prevention

Airdate: Sunday, October 13, 2013

September was National Suicide Prevention Month.  This month, the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention, or AFSP, is holding their annual fundraising event to raise awareness about suicide.  AFSP is dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy.  Suicide is a serious public health problem that affects so many people, from families, friends, co-workers and communities as a whole, to our military.  What are the reasons or risk factors behind suicide?  That's the topic of today's show with my guests AFSP San Diego Area Director, Jessica van der Stad and AFSP volunteer Sam Zimlich.  Sam also founded Answers For Adam, another organization dedicated to raising awareness about suicide.
