I'm not one to be swept up in the electronic music fad moving though the music industry right now....God knows I already went through that in the late 90's. But this track really caught my attention. At this point in time everyone know the name Skrillex for one reason or another and who can forget Damian Jr Gong Marley...This track features the two of them together. Now I warn you it might sound like crap on computer spearkers so hook the up to some really expensive stereo equipment and crank it!
enjoy.

Oh Hello Gary Clark Jr...
Seeing this guy in action is like watching the second coming of Guitar Goddom. Not only can this guy jam but he's extrememly nice and amazingly polite.
The music industry is intouble once he gets he album finished because it could set the bar to high for anything to match.

Hard not to love a smart ass. To me this is what the Strokes should sound like today, had they not become super huge, over produced and way into their own egos. Not to say their new stuff stucks, it just lacks that raw angst that only a bottom of the barrel up-start punk band can convey. Enter Howler, for lack of a better description, kids from Minneapolis who started a punk band out of sheer boredom. Listen to "Back of Your Neck", check out the whole album America Give Up and if you get the time...go here...you'll thank me when your sides stop hurting.

The Dr. is in the house! It doesn't get much cooler than Dr. John. But, throw Black Keys frontman Dar Auerbach in the mix as producer and you get a whole new level of cool. Here's the first taste of Dr. John's new album Locked Down and I can't stop listening to this track..."Revolution"

Very rarely do I get to just grab a CD out of the stack and instantly feel a connection with the music. Since I picked Arrow from Heartless Bastards I haven't been able to put it down. The band is from Cincinnati Ohio, but don't expect anything like the Black Keys. To me their vibe feel more like early King of Leon music with a femal lead. Let's see if you got hooked like I did.

From the first moment that I heard Josh Tillman was breaking off from Fleet Foxes I was interested in Father John Misty. When he dropped this first track on the web earlier this week, I knew my anticipation was worth the wait…see what you think.

Wow...Hard to say more than that. I saw the Alabama Shakes play the Belly Up on Tuesday and there was so much raw emotion on stage it was impossible not to completely held captive by the show. It's hard to believe that the bands lead singer Brittany is only 21 and previous to position as front woman to the band, she was a postal carrier. To me her voice is equal parts Billie Holiday to Janis Joplin. Needless to say I expect big things from this band in the future.

In truth this one isn't as much a weekly obsession as it is an unhealthy infatuation. The CD w h o k i l l came out in April and I've tried to turn everyone on it who would listen to me, but if you don't have an open mind it might be a little hard to grasp. Equal parts art-rock to indie/hipster tUnE-yArDs Merrill Garbus turns out some of the most original and infectiously catchy songs that I've heard in a long time. If you don't get it at first, it's OK, I didn't either. But, after a few listens I found myself wanting to return to the whole album. Check out what I've posted and see what you think...

It's scary how many records come across my desk in a week. Since it's impossible to play everything I obsess about week to week, I'm going to try and pick one track per week that is the best of what was in my listening stack.
This week was a track that I got last month, but was too busy putting together all the CD's for A-Z to listen to..
Gotye (pronounced Go-Tee-Yeah) a track called "Somebody That I Used to Know" from the album Making Mirrors. If you're curious as to who that angelic voice is halfway thru the track is, it's New Zealand's own R&B star Kimbra.
enjoy.
Did you miss the Belle Brigade?

Hey! It's been a hell of a long time since I've posted anything here! Guess it's time to give up the goods!
I'm sure you've heard many of us talking about the amazing time we had at the Belle Brigade show at the Belly Up just a few days ago. Since it was sold out and a lot of people missed out on getting to see them live...here's a small taste of what they did for us during soundcheck. I know it doesn't make up for not being there...but it's close.
