From the first moment that I heard Josh Tillman was breaking off from Fleet Foxes I was interested in Father John Misty. When he dropped this first track on the web earlier this week, I knew my anticipation was worth the wait…see what you think.

Wow...Hard to say more than that. I saw the Alabama Shakes play the Belly Up on Tuesday and there was so much raw emotion on stage it was impossible not to completely held captive by the show. It's hard to believe that the bands lead singer Brittany is only 21 and previous to position as front woman to the band, she was a postal carrier. To me her voice is equal parts Billie Holiday to Janis Joplin. Needless to say I expect big things from this band in the future.

In truth this one isn't as much a weekly obsession as it is an unhealthy infatuation. The CD w h o k i l l came out in April and I've tried to turn everyone on it who would listen to me, but if you don't have an open mind it might be a little hard to grasp. Equal parts art-rock to indie/hipster tUnE-yArDs Merrill Garbus turns out some of the most original and infectiously catchy songs that I've heard in a long time. If you don't get it at first, it's OK, I didn't either. But, after a few listens I found myself wanting to return to the whole album. Check out what I've posted and see what you think...

It's scary how many records come across my desk in a week. Since it's impossible to play everything I obsess about week to week, I'm going to try and pick one track per week that is the best of what was in my listening stack.
This week was a track that I got last month, but was too busy putting together all the CD's for A-Z to listen to..
Gotye (pronounced Go-Tee-Yeah) a track called "Somebody That I Used to Know" from the album Making Mirrors. If you're curious as to who that angelic voice is halfway thru the track is, it's New Zealand's own R&B star Kimbra.
enjoy.

Hey! It's been a hell of a long time since I've posted anything here! Guess it's time to give up the goods!
I'm sure you've heard many of us talking about the amazing time we had at the Belle Brigade show at the Belly Up just a few days ago. Since it was sold out and a lot of people missed out on getting to see them live...here's a small taste of what they did for us during soundcheck. I know it doesn't make up for not being there...but it's close.

Being an engineer/DJ has it's advantages. Not only can I pick and play music on the radio but every once in a while I get to mix a little live audio. Broken Bells came in the studio before kicking off their tour here in San Diego, here are two songs they did for us live in the studio that I got to mix...
enjoy!
